Putting your affairs in order: eight things your family will thank you for
We build DedSafe, a secure UK online safe for families. We check our guides against GOV.UK and other official sources, and review each one every year.

None of us likes to think about it. But a little planning now is one of the kindest gifts you can give the people you love. It saves them searching, guessing and worrying at the hardest time.
Here are eight simple things that make a real difference:
- An emergency card with your allergies, medicines and who to call, so a paramedic can help you quickly.
- Where your will is kept. Many families don’t know, and end up searching.
- Your passwords, kept safely, in a private vault, never on a note by the computer.
- Someone you trust, who can look after things if something happens to you.
- Your funeral wishes, written down, so your family won’t have to guess.
- A daily “I’m okay” check-in, if you live alone, so someone knows to call if you miss a day.
- Your life story, in your own words: where you grew up, how you met, the moments that mattered.
- A message for someone special: perhaps for a grandchild’s birthday, years from now.
You don’t have to do it all at once. One small step a week is plenty.
DedSafe’s “Peace of mind” card walks you through each of these, and ticks them off as you go.
